Winona Ryder is the well-known professional name for Winona Laura Hoowitz. She was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her the city she grew up in after her birthplace. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's father was from an ethnically Jewish family Ryder thinks she's Jewish. Ryder has a younger brother Uria and half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. At the age of seven, Ryder was just seven, her family moved from Mendocino County, California.
